07-Jun-2011Squadron Trip - March Break 2012 We have been invited by 283 Woodbridge Squadron to join them in a squadron trip to the United Kingdom and France from March 6-21, 2012. Please read the letter that was sent home with potential candidates on Monday, June 6, 2011 and pay special attention to the Basic Criteria that must be met in order to be eligible to participate in the trip. These items are non-negotiable under any terms. We will conduct an information session for the parents and cadets interested in attending the trip on Monday, June 13, 2011 with guest speaker Lieutenant R. Rangel-Bron who is the Training Officer with 283 Squadron and the Officer in charge of planning and executing the trip. This session will take place in the Lion's Hall starting promptly at 1900hrs (7pm) until roughly 2100hrs (9pm). Cadets are requested to drop in at Victoria Park to get their attendance taken before joining the meeting and are expected to be in uniform as per usual and attend closing parade once the meeting is over. Annual Ceremonial Review - 18 Jun 2011 - Victoria Park Arena Parents and Friends of the cadets and staff of 758 "Argus" Squadron are cordially invited to attend our 46th Annual Ceremonial Review on 18 Jun 2011 at 1300hrs. Parents and friends are asked to arrive no later than 1245hrs. Cadets are asked to arrive at the squadron at 0800hrs with their entire full-dress uniform pressed and hung on a hanger, boots polished to a stunning shine, and shaven (if male) and hair up (if female). Cadets will be provided lunch but should eat a hearty breakfast prior to arriving. Cadets should wear appropriate civilian clothing as they will be practising for the parade (running shoes or comfy shoes - no flip flops, high heels, etc.). Summer Training Date Changes The dates that were originally published for some of the Summer Training Courses were incorrect. Please see this attachment to double-check your course dates. If you have any questions, please see the Summer Training Officer. More information will be posted as it becomes available. Update to Cadet Assessment Fee The Ontario Provincial Committee (OPC) - the regulatory body for Air Cadet Squadrons in Ontario levies an annual fee for every registered cadet. This fee was previously $18.00 per cadet and was paid from the squadron's operating budget. This fee (assessment) has been increased to $50.00 per cadet, and because of the number of cadets registered with 758 "Argus" Squadron, we can no longer absorb these costs. We will therefore be expecting parents to pay this assessment starting in September 2011. Those parents with more than one cadet registered with the squadron are requested to speak with any member of the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) so that the payment can be made without causing any undue financial strain. Update to OPC Lottery Ticket Process The lottery tickets that each cadet is expected to sell annually help finance the squadron as well as the flying scholarship program within the Air Cadet Program. These tickets will be distributed in September 2011 and parents will be asked to get involved to help their cadet by paying the $50.00 up front. Funds can be recovered by the parent once the cadet has sold his/her book of tickets. Any concerns should be addressed to any member of the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC). |
