Calling all Parents!

We are looking to add interested members to the Squadron Sponsoring Committee…

The SSC is composed of a group parents of past or present cadets or community members to provide assistance with fundraising, securing facilities, soliciting donations, etc. More details on the roles and responsibilities of the committee, please visit the About page under Sponsor.

The committee meets the third Monday evening of every month during regular parade time (all parents are welcome to attend). There is a lot of work that goes on behind the scenes to ensure that the program runs and has adequate funding. Many hands makes light work.

If you are interested in learning more, please speak to any member of the current SSC (usually at the table at the front door of the Lions Hall on Monday evenings). You can also use the Contact Us section of the website to send an email. All members must complete a Criminal Background Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening and provide references.

OPC Assessment Fee & Lottery Tickets

Cadets who have not picked up their lottery tickets yet are requested to do so this coming Monday. We ask that you pre-pay for the tickets ($50.00) and as you sell the tickets, you recover the cost. Cadets who already have their tickets need to return them ASAP. If you need an extension for whatever reason, please speak to a member of the SSC (Squadron Sponsoring Committee). They are always located at the desk by the front door of the Lions Hall.

There are also a number of cadets who have not paid the assessment fee yet (non-refundable). This fee is levied by the Ontario Provincial Committee of the the Air Cadet League of Canada and collected by the squadron on their behalf. The fee funds a number of programs offered by the OPC, including the flying program. Should there be any special requirements or arrangements made, please do not hesitate to speak to the SSC to arrange them. They are very discreet and accommodating.

Uniform Standards

For direction on badge placements, visit the Resources section (click on the actual heading Resources) and scroll down under Supply. There are illustrated references. For tips on how to shine your boots, etc., there are plenty of videos on YouTube if you do a search. No other products except for black shoe polish should be used on the boots. We recommend the brand name Kiwi with a Kiwi polishing cloth. They can be purchased at any drug store or grocery store (usually on an end cap somewhere). For other tips and tricks, speak to your section commanders or Flight Sergeants.

Summer Training Applications

For cadets in Level One, the only course you are eligible to apply for is General Training. If you are 14 years or older, we will discuss other options with you once you submit your application but any 3 week course is open to you.

Cadets applying to national courses, please be sure to submit your narrative as per the Cadet Handbook (attached below or under Summer Training Resources). All the information you require is there.

2016 National Courses HB for Cadets

To be clear, not all cadets who apply for summer training will be selected as the training centres cannot house an infinite number of cadets. Cadets who maintain good attendance, strong participation, good marks (at school and at cadets for national courses), will be prioritized higher. The actual selection is not conducted at the squadron level.
