The Sponsoring Committee works in partnership with squadron staff to ensure the viability of the unit. Their support is intended to compliment the resources available from the Canadian Forces. The responsibility for the sponsoring committee falls to the Air Cadet League as their Supervisory Sponsor. The Squadron is supported through various forms of voluntary personal involvement, financial contributions, the provision of extra activities for the cadets, and other material assistance. The Sponsoring Committee is often described as the "backbone of the Air Cadet Movement", because one of the real secrets to the success of an Air Cadet Squadron is a well organized and effective Sponsoring Committee. The Sponsoring Committee of the Squadron shall be responsible for (but not limited to):
To become involved with our Sponsoring Committee, please speak to Livingstone Brathwaite, Sponsoring Committee Chairperson, or any other member of our Sponsoring Committee. IMPORTANT The following information was distributed at a recent town hall meeting for all parents of existing cadets hosted by the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) on 2 May 2011. These updates pertain to every returning cadet in the fall, as well as all brand new cadets starting in the fall. Please read very carefully and forward your questions / concerns to any member of the SSC. VERY IMPORTANT - UPDATE TO CADET ASSESSMENT FEE The Ontario Provincial Committee (OPC) - the regulatory body for Air Cadet Squadrons in Ontario levies an annual fee for every registered cadet. This fee was previously $18.00 per cadet and was paid from the squadron's operating budget. This fee (assessment) has been increased to $50.00 per cadet, and because of the number of cadets registered with 758 "Argus" Squadron, we can no longer absorb these costs. We will therefore be expecting parents to pay this assessment starting in September 2011. Those parents with more than one cadet registered with the squadron are requested to speak with any member of the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC) so that the payment can be made without causing any undue financial strain. VERY IMPORTANT - UPDATE TO OPC LOTTERY TICKET PROCESS The lottery tickets that each cadet is expected to sell annually help finance the squadron as well as the flying scholarship program within the Air Cadet Program. These tickets will be distributed in September 2011 and parents will be asked to get involved to help their cadet by paying the $50.00 up front. Funds can be recovered by the parent once the cadet has sold his/her book of tickets. Any concerns should be addressed to any member of the Squadron Sponsoring Committee (SSC). |
