758 ARGUS ROYAL CANADIAN AIR CADETS

Squadron History

758 Squadron was originally formed on the 10th of November 1965. At that time, we had a strength of approximately 30 Cadets and 6 Staff members and was located at the Brampton Armouries on Chapel Street. By 1968 the squadron had increased in numbers to approximately 60 cadets. To be sure, 758 Squadron’s greatest legacy has been our recruitment and retention of ex-cadets as instructors, thereby guaranteeing a certain measure of consistency over the years. The squadron now has a strength of 175 cadets, 8 officers and a number of civilian volunteers. The squadron also has many parents involved in supporting the squadron via the sponsoring committee or other means.

Since our inception, 758 “Argus” Squadron has continued to provide young men and women in Brampton with a sense of direction and purpose, by providing the opportunity for someone to strive for something better. This year, as in the past, the Squadron sent cadets to various summer training courses within the region, including both the Glider Pilot and Power Pilot Scholarships.

Many of our former Cadets have gone on to assume various positions with both the Canadian Military, and those who are actively involved as Cadet Instructors with ours and other Air Cadet Squadrons. We at 758 are proud of all their achievements.

WHY CADETS?

About Cadets

The Mission of the Cadet Program is to contribute to the development and preparation of youth for the transition to adulthood, enabling them to meet the challenges of modern society, through a dynamic community-based program.

The Vision of the Cadet Program is to provide a relevant, credible and proactive youth development organization, offering the program of choice for Canada’s youth, preparing them to become the leaders of tomorrow through a set of fun, challenging, well-organized and safe activities.

The Aim of the Cadet Program is to develop in youth the attributes of good citizenship and leadership, promote physical fitness and stimulate the interest of youth in the sea, land and air activities of the Canadian Forces.

Important Note: If you are unsure as to whether this program is the right fit for you, we encourage you to attend one of our information sessions as our staff and senior cadets will be there to answer any questions you may have.

We strongly encourage open communication between parents and cadets when it comes to joining the program as cadets who are forced unwillingly into the program may not get much out of it. As the saying goes, “you get out of cadets, what you put into it”. Cadets will be required to maintain a high standard of dress and deportment. Through cadets you will learn so many neat and exciting things that you will not find anywhere else!
